WELCOME TO
THORNBURY CHURCH OF CHRIST

We are a congregation that aims to be attentive to God and to the people in our neighbourhood, looking for opportunities to be of assistance or support and bringing the message of hope into the lives of people.  Our Sunday services are in the chapel, however, prayer meetings and bible studies are still online or via telephone using zoom.  We are really keen to have you join us, even if you don't believe what we believe, we hope that you'll find a place to belong.

Despite changes in the methods of operating, the message has remained the same throughout all our history; namely, we encourage people to relate to God the Father, through God the Son, in the power of God the Holy Spirit. Our mission statement is Seek, Connect, Grow - To Seek God, to Connect in community and Grow together.  We are an independent church affiliated with the Churches of Christ movement in Victoria and Tasmania.

CHURCH SERVICES

Our Sunday and weekly prayer services are geared to worshippers of all ages. Coming together as a community strengthens and guides us in our daily life. For those who wish to join us, you are always welcome.

SMITH ST COMMUNITY PANTRY

OPEN 24/7...

Take what you need, give what you can.

The Smith St Community Pantry has been supplied, refurbished and installed due to the generosity of the local community.   It is located on the church premises but it is managed by local neighbours and friends who keep it clean and check it from day to day.

What can we put in the pantry?

  • Unopened non perishable food eg: dry pasta, cans fruit/veg, sauces, soups, noodles, flour, rice, beans, biscuits, long life milk, cereal etc.

  • Toiletries eg: tooth paste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, toilet paper

  • Cleaning products eg: dish soap, washing powder, spray cleaners,

  • Baby needs eg: nappies, wipes, baby food etc.

  • Garden produce eg: lemons, oranges, plums, apples, cucumber, zucchini

What can't we put in the pantry?

  • opened / stale food

  • food that requires refrigeration

  • really out of date food

  • unwrapped food (other than fruit/veg)

  • random items that would usually be given to an op shop eg: furniture items, books etc.

*Please note that we have a couple of local bakeries that donate left over bread and food from their end of day trading. They have permission to put the non-perishable food in the pantry individually wrapped for those who are in need and reduce waste.

If you are a local business or have a larger donation we would love to hear from you.

We are a proud CareWorks partner and able to issue instant tax deductible receipts for all donations towards our community programs by clicking the link below.

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE CAFE

THINK LOCAL COMMUNITY CAFE

Think Local Community Cafe is a non-profit social enterprise set up to service the caffeine needs of the Thornbury community. We use only the best Fairtrade organic coffee, roasted by Just Planet and have a range of ready to eat sweet and savoury goodies, for breakfast on the go or a refuel to get you through the day.

Starting with a mobile coffee cart, we have grown into our food trailer at the front of the Church (390-398 St Georges Road Thornbury). As a social enterprise, our desire is to channel all profits back into the community, initially in the form of community meals programs before expanding to other community care initiatives.

We always need volunteers to assist with our community programs and social enterprise cafe.
